love is all you need
my parents are evil
cops are my friends

“we” are the good guys
my government won’t lie to me
my older brother will always be here to handle things
there is justice

That’s S.F., silly, not L.A.  It’s a wonder you didn’t get shot.

(Andrew):  This was long ago, when Fullerton (at least) was safe, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band was gigging at Knott’s Berry Farm.  We thought the time was ripe for a(nother) hot banjo picker and his guitar playing sidekick from the hills of VA.
Hah!

We almost got shot in Muncie, though.  The owner of a pizza place (reluctantly) let us pick a few tunes and pass the hat.  There wasn’t much of a crowd to begin with, and that was bad enough…but the few people who were there trying to enjoy their pizza and beer, began offering us money to stop playing.  We almost got huffy, thought better of it, accepted their money, and hit the road for the Promised Land.
I was just kidding about the almost getting shot part.

You have a higer regard for humanity than I do.

Are you the banjo picker or the sidekick?

(Starting to enjoy bluegrass.. Ricky Skaggs, Bill Monroe, Yonder Mountain String Band..)

(Andrew):  Guitar playing sidekick.  I play banjo, but not in the same league as the guy that I went with to California.  We were going to replace Bill Keith and Jim Rooney.
Again, hah!
I like Ricky Skaggs…even his spirituals…and the Yonder Mt Band.  Bill Monroe, not so much.

Back to the OP, first things that spring to mind:

-Follow your heart
-Those who cannot remember history are doomed to repeat it (still some truth there, but I’m more inclined these days to believe that history is the last refuge of those cannot or will not deal with changing/current circumstances)
-You should marry your best friend (of your preferred gender, of course)
-Becoming a parent radically alters your outlook on life
-(as a performer) Cheers are better than knowing you pushed yourself
-Patience is always a virtue; so is being “nice”
-Accessible art is a contradiction in terms
-Caffeine is completely unnecessary

I’m sure there’s more, but it will come to me later.

P.S. Stardust, from your “Sex is better than chocolate” remark I infer you’ve never really tried combining the two.  smile

My man and best friends are all out of town for another week, and I’m off work on medical leave for another week. Do you know what that means? The seven Lindt Milk Chocolate Truffles are mine. All mine!

Chocolate is best when you have it all to yourself.

I used to believe that all dogs were male, all cats were female, and their union produced puppies and kittens.

When I was a teen back in the early 80s, I thought punk rock kids were the first teenagers ever to rebel.

(What can I say, I had led a very sheltered life.)

My fondness for history and the recurring theme of “The best laid plans of mice and men will surely go awry” kept me from being idealistic.  That’s not to say it’s been good to me since a little idealism is a good motivator, on the other hand it’s kept my mind open to the perspectives of others.

I used to believe that invisible researchers were watching me and that everyone except me are just a hologram to test my reactions. :D The only safe time was when it rained… mind you I was six.

I used to believe racism means to hate only black people.

that they call alcohol in the communion “blood” so the cops do not find out that they serve it to minors

that homosexual people are very good friends that want to live together as roomies

that if you eat something half an hour before swimming you die

that only other people make kids via sex not my parents

that if you are fat you are insulting others

that if I have good grades I will be better than others

that love (as in romantic love) is a fantasy of over-emotional people

that drugs like ecstasy, LSD, hassis etc kill you just as certainly (in time) as pumping heroine into your bloodvessels

that Americans hate everyone except their own people (if they are white) and that the president of the USA is to them an infallible God for about three years or so (something like the Pope hehe)

that I am rarely wrong…

No, they do that so people won’t figure out Jesus was a raging alcoholic.

Seriously, though; my folks had me convinced the stuff in the cup was “grape juice” until I was about 7 or 8.
