There’s an almost eerie lack of hocus-pocus junkies on this forum.

Did we get “left behind” or is has the devil (read: moderators) got their tongues?

It’s pretty much mob rules here. We sit around kicking the shit of each other (or teams) until some hocus-pocus junkie shows up then we kick the shit of them until they go running home to their mommies and sky daddies, and then we go back to kicking the shit out of each other until the next one shows up.

Gee. I was going to post something clever but GAD has about nailed it.

We do make them work for it. And: on clean and shiny spam-free threads.

A pretty good description of the atheist world to come.

A pretty good description of the atheist world to come.

Or, more precisely, the religious past and present.

At least here, “kick the shit…” refers to an argument, a discussion, not a crusade or jihad.

Or of science. The outcome depends upon the standards used to kick the shite out of each other.

Science wins that one hands down, despite Bruce’s attempt at the ominous doom and gloom schtick (sorry dude, but you’ve failed to sell your buelshite wares here ... yet again).

I think what you seem to miss is that if anyone wanted to sell their buelshite? Whatever that is, here, all they would have to do is provide the appropriate buelshite.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Sounds like you’re upset about not being able to sell your wares here either ...

Sorry man.

I know it’s hard.

Try to be brave.

This forum has never been easy for unfounded ideas. While any idea can be presented, few people stay around when their ideas gets shot down, stabbed and gutted. It’s never easy to watch as other forum members take turns wearing the idea-corpse as a hat, as they run around in the forum halls hooting.

That’s only because you are not in physical contact with one another.  An atheist future would not be much different than the religious past.  People will just find other things to kill each other about.

Chose the form of the Destructor. If I have to be killed I’d rather be killed by a reasonable atheist then a deluded theist.

If humanity truly managed to grow out of the religious thinking phase (a.k.a. the magic thinking phase) we’d overall do away with institutionalized (inherently validated) intellectual irresponsibility—it would probably go the way violence has. Of course there would still be throwbacks (bad neighbors) and it would surely still be a problem, but it would be recognized as the problem it is, and for the most part we’d enjoy the improvements to ourselves, our families, our friends and associates, and our society overall.

And as with violence I’d still recommend maintaining awareness and a viable self-defense, whatever that may be for each individual.

Your statement reminded me of a statistic I heard yesterday in a newscast.  It seems that our crime rate in Canada has dropped by 17% in the past decade, and that rate is in fact accelerating because in 2009 there was a 5% drop from the previous year.  HOWEVER, our current (evangelically-inclined) government continues to introduce legislation that cracks down harder on crime and criminals, they have abandoned our gun registry program, and introduced longer sentences and more severe punishment for young offenders.  All this is done in the name of “security” by those who live under the fear of god as their primary delusion.

As we have become a more secular society and religious adherence has dropped significantly in the last two decades, our crime rates have also dropped.  Of course we still have enough religious nuts in this country to elect a Conservative government (37% of voters) in a nation with 5 parties to choose from at election time.  But the actions of this minority government just shows how out of touch with reality these fearful christians can be - they focus their attention on creating fear in the populace and then they act accordingly to show that they are doing something about the fear that they have created (the fear that crime is out of control and on the rise in Canada).
