For New Years in 1987 I drove down to Guymas on the Gulf of California with my brother where we met my uncle and two cousins at the Hotel Conquistador (right on the beach, our rooms overlooked the incoming waves, also the hotel where my parents had honeymooned years before). It was early afternoon and my uncle went out to buy the booze. He came back with three bottles of Tequila which he explained to us would give a sample for taste testing. There was the standard Jose Cuervo, an intermediate brand, and a bottle of Orendain Jalisco anejo. We had sips of each to see the difference. The Orendain was superb, smooth, almost like clarified liquid honey. My uncle went out for something else so the rest of us drank all of the Orendain, then went out on the balcony and as the twilight deepened shot bottle rockets into the surf. Orendain became my all time favorite sipping spirit.

A high quality tequila is a great sipping drink.  IMHO

Has anyone tried the Scotch/Bourbon blend?  Glenfiddich?

I haven’t.  I’m not aware of an actual blended whiskey like this, though Glenfiddich does have a bourbon barreled scotch.  I haven’t had it though.
A video tasting.
Based on their comments, and the price being around $40-45, this is going on the list of something to try.

That’s what I meant, bourbon-barreled.  My faulty brain decided blend was the term I wanted.
I’m going to have to give it a go too.  Mostly I’m a single malt guy, but I like bourbon, and I like Innis an Gunn’s bourbon barrel beer.

My tastes keep shifting.  I grew up on scotch.  I got on the bourbon bandwagon early, but the distilling laws around it make everything very similar.  I’ve started shifting back to scotch the past few years.  I like Irish, but it has some categorical similarities like bourbon (it doesn’t taste like bourbon, but a lot of Irish whiskey tastes similar to other Irish whiskey).  Japanese whiskey is very good though.  What I’ve had lacks the punch you can find in scotch, but there’s amazing delicate and subtle flavors, while having an overall profile similar to scotch.

A Sazarac.  I’ve finally figured out what to do with a bottle of anise liquor which was gifted a while ago. I think I’ll do this for a while.

I’m trying to come up with a good Thanksgiving cocktail, one that captures the spirit of the season.  Right now, I’m thinking of mixing Fireball whisky (cinnamon flavor) with apple cider.  Any suggestions?

You’ve got to be in the spirit of the season. Nothing but Wild Turkey.

I can certainly add that to the mix.

Mulled wine, hot toddy, hot buttered rum, or your very own Rumaretto.  Here’s a recipe for a Brandy Old Fashioned.

The way the weather is going today, it’s going to be hot chocolate with kahlua and brandy tonight.

Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon in that.

Hot chocolate and peppermint schnapps is good, too.

I would recommend it with either of the two recommended bourbons instead (Wild Turkey 101, or Evan Williams Bottled in Bond).  Add some fresh lemon mixed in, and garnish with cinnamon on top.  If you want to get real fancy, use cinnamon sticks instead (they aren’t expensive).

My wife recommenced cinnamon, too. And I was thinking about some nutmeg as an experiment. And some cayanne (Mexican Hot Chocolate, my favorite). News says we’re being hit by a rare “weather bomb” of rain, snow, winds, and high tides.
