Six packs of beer around here are now firmly starting at $10, which is putting a cramp in my wallet.  The cheapest, decent beer today was a Belgian import, Hoegaarden, and it’s been many years since I’ve enjoyed its light funkiness.

Scored a 1.5 liter bottle of Evan Williams Bottled In Bond for $25!  So I made a Sazarac, because the situation called for it.

Angel’s Envy Finished Rye.  Smooth vanilla taste.  Top shelf.

The cheap nigori sake went well with the temaki sushi my wife made tonight.

One of the strangest but pleasant things I’ve ever tried was mixing Japanese whiskey with soy sauce for dipping sushi in.

Proper Twelve Irish Whiskey.  I prefer it to Jamison, plus this bottle came with a cute little pullover that makes the bottle look like an octagon fighter like Conor McGregor, one of the brand’s owners.

I did it this evening with bourbon, and didn’t like it.  Thanks for the suggestion, though.  Washed down the temaki with sake.

I did a cookout with some neighbors.  I made pulled pork tacos and had some Hamm’s beer.  My friend made very good chicken wings and had some Teremana reposado tequila.

The tequila was quite good.  Pretty mild on the tequila flavors, and smooth overall.  My other go-to brand is Casamigos, and I might like Teremana better.
Hamm’s is my favorite cheap beer.  $17 for a 30 pack, I gladly supply a few extra cans to friends, neighbors, and strangers.  It’s cheap, tastes like beer, and drinks well when cold.

I’ll probably pay for this in the morning - a glass of sake then a finger of Diplomatico rum.

Recently stayed at the Hotel Emma in San Antonio, a first class hotel located in the old Pearl Brewery.  They created a cocktail called “The Three Emmas”.  The owner of the brewery had a wife and two mistresses, all named Emma.  He went to see his mistresses one night and was shot dead by one of them (the circumstances are a bit muddled).  Thus, the name of the hotel and the cocktail. Here is the recipe:

1 oz Pearl Beer & Rose cordial
1 oz Amontillado Sherry
.75 oz Botanist Gin
.5 oz Lemon Juice
.5 oz Grapefruit Juice

Serve chilled.

I’m not a gin fan, but this is one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. My wife and I had two of them before dinner, and it set us on a path to happiness and joy.

Last night the bartender at the Ruby Hotel in Round Rock made me a cocktail that i named in his honor - The Tom Prince.  It’s a prince of a drink, from Tito’s vodka, ginger liqueur, lemon/lime juice and simple syrup.  I may have overdone it a bit.

The Mojito didn’t hit the spot, so I went back to the bar but did not find inspiration, so I went to the fridge.  I found inspiration in the ginger beer my wife stashed in the back, so the Moscow Mule with a kumquat garnish is hitting the spot.

Raised it up a notch by adding mint to a Moscow Mule with a kumquat garnish.  Yep.
