Let’s go Raptors!  We the North!

Enjoy! Just know that almost all Toronto’s players are from uh…We to the South

Haha ... I should have expected this to be pointed out, eh?  But they’re ours at least for now and we don’t really care.

If you were to check out some Canadian news stations for the coverage about Raptor’s fans, especially in TO, you’d see how big it is.  It’s history in the making and we’re loving it.

O Canada!

I’ve been to Toronto a couple of times and have fond memories of seeing Phantom of the Opera there. Just to let you know Jan, since I’m not really a Warriors fan, I’ve decided to root for the Raptors! And I may even attempt O Canada if they win the championship! I figure it’s only fair since Canadians sung our anthem in NHL playoffs when the sound system malfunctioned.

That’s great, proxi!  The more the merrier.
I don’t usually follow basketball closely (until recently) and also don’t live in Toronto, but this is different and has been a lot of fun.

And here’s a link to O Canada again so you can practise up.  ;-)

Yeah!!!  We just won Game 4!  Just one win away ...

I love it, but you better pray to the god of ketchup chips that KD can’t come out to play.

He (Durant) did come out to play for Game 5, but unfortunately it looks like he came back too soon and re-injured his leg.

The Warriors will play their last game in Oakland this Thursday, then the team moves across the great divide to their new home in San Francisco.  Geographically, the team moves a lousy 10 miles, but socially they may as well move 10,000 miles.  The Warriors moved to Oakland in 1971(?) after stumbling and bumbling around the Bay Area for a couple years, but kept their itinerant name, Golden State, and never adopted their town’s name.  I got nothing against San Francisco, and consider it one of the world’s most beautiful, trend-setting, and dynamic cities, but out of respect for the city they called home which supported them with sold-out games during their darkest years from the 80’s through the Aughts, I hope they keep the Golden State name.

I’m so mad about that. Three minutes before he went down I said to my friends that he looks like he’s hobbling. Everyone saw it as a matter of fact. Now he probably has a torn Achilles. Whoever had the final say in clearing him needs to get his ask kicked cause that was F’d up.

Although it’s possible someone made a big mistake here, I wonder if it could be more of an unfortunate mistake in judgement if it was thought that he had healed adequately from the previous injury.  I think it’s easy to make these kind of mistakes when everyone wants it to be so, including Durant himself I assume, because there was so much incentive for him to play.

If it is an Achilles Tendon, then that could be a career-ender, but this headline should remove any doubt:

Warriors GM Bob Myers Announces Kevin Durant Tore Achilles, Clears Him To Play Game 6

Sadly, the real story is that Kevin Durant had surgery today and is probably looking at a 12-month recovery.

Yeah I’m afraid that there were a lot of politics involved. For years people called KD a bitch for going to the Warriors. Now consider that it was starting to look like him being injured was the main reason they were going to lose their dynasty run and champion status. They kept pushing his return back, saying it was minor, saying it might be worse than that, then not giving updates at all; and then finally on a win or go home situation, he hobbles out of the locker room only to snap his Achilles. I gotta imagine a lot of politics went into this, but nevertheless they had a duty to protect that guy and there’s no way he should have been cleared when he looked that suspect even running out of the gate. The more I get into it, the more it disgusts me how they treat these guys like merchandise. Sure they’re super high paid, but there’s at least one good reason for that in that they’re known to push themselves to their physical limits.

If you slow it down and look, when he first goes down, there’s this moment where he goes to grab his Achilles, reconsiders the optics, and then grabs somewhere in between his calf and his Achilles. I think he knew that he didn’t want people to think it was that bad.

Thanks.  It sure was a close game though.
There are a lot of proud and partying Canadians tonight - that’s what happens when a country has only one team - everyone’s a Raptors’ fan.

I believe the Raptors did a Nancy Kerrigan on Durant and Thompson.  If you slow the tape way down you can see one of Toronto Bluejays with a maple baseball bat hit both of them.  It is assumed that Trudeau is once again attacking the USA.
