To participate in this given experiment all you have to do is tell me what comes to your mind when you hear the phrase “The Jungle Rainbow”.

After you process the phrase what word and/or idea and/or emotion comes to your mind?

What comes to mind?

Ummm… A hot humid forest after a rain shower, maybe? Green and wet and slippery.

What phrase/idea/emotion comes to mind?

All I can think of is that a pretty sky ornament doesn’t make up for the heat and humidity and the mud and leeches and mosquitoes and other creepy crawlies. I just don’t like being in jungels. We need’em and they’re great for animals. Just not this animal.

A beach, maybe, or a snowy mountain. Those I could warm to. But a jungle. No.

Hope this helps.

I’m in a jungle and someone radios me and tells me that there is a rainbow above the canopy, but I can’t see it because I’m in a jungle. Oh, and flies are eating me, I’m sweating my bag off and I wish I was canoeing on a clear lake in Canada instead of stuck in a fucking jungle hearing about a beautiful rainbow that I can’t see because of the dense vegetation. Oh, a howler monkey just threw its feces at me, I’m glad it missed.

First I imagined a rainbow caused by mist/humidity under the jungle canopy hit by a “leak” that lets a shaft of sunlight through.

Then I remembered this.

Made me happy.

First thing i thought of was ‘unweaving the rainbow’ by Richard Dawkins.

Yeah, sounds like he was having a triple orgasm. Ohhh…. Ahhhh…Ohhh…Yes! Ohh… Ahhh…

Guess that would make me happy, too. But over a rainbow? I love the wonders of nature as much as the next bloke but where’s the guy been all his life? Never seen a double rainbow before? Imagine if he saw an aurora. He’ be coming in his pants.

Sorry, Skep, I’m being a killjoy. It’s raining here now. Think I’ll go out and check for rainbows. Ah…no. It’s night time. Ok, I’ll go look at Orion. Ah…no, it’s raining and the lights of Sydney are reflecting of the base of the cloud deck so nothing is visible - might as well be on Venus or Titan.  Maybe I’ll go check the rain gauge. Nah. I can check that online. How about another Dimple and soda? Yeah, that sounds better. Ain’t no one gonna steal mah rain gauge so I can check it in the morning.

Mowgli from The Jungle Book animated film following a rainbow through the jungle.

See, I’m much more “normal” than the rest of you.

Well, Tarzan was gay, wasn’t he? If he wasn’t he should have been. The way he used to ... Nah. None of you would remember the Tarzan series on TV.

Ron Ely as an Obi-Wan-ish Tarzan. An Oxford Tarzan with two small drapes for a costume.

The first thing was “The Jungle Book” by Kipling. After processing, something similar to “gays in the tropics” (mentioned by another poster) came to mind.

Hm. Very interesting. What about if the phrase was switched. How do all of you feel about a Rainbow Jungle?
