Or, we could all just flee into Grandmother’s Land, like the Sioux.

quote:

“Seeking asylum from the brutality of American troops was not something new. In 1862, for example, many Dakota refugees from the United States began to settle in the small Manitoba towns near the border with Minnesota. They were fleeing from the American army whose general had stated:

“It is my purpose utterly to exterminate the Sioux if I have the power to do so.”

Sadly, native peoples aren’t always treated that much better north of the border.  A long and ugly story that’s still going on.  (Currently being aired on our news is a disturbing video of a First Nations Chief being roughed up by RCMP officers.)

Drat!  Well we could all flee to Utah and become Mormons.  I never thought Mitt Romney would appear as a pillar of sanity.

If Trump wins again, there may be the need to build a second wall along the US/Canadian border.

Except this one would be built by the Canadians to keep Americans from sneaking into Canada.

We would pardon El Chapo and put him in charge of digging tunnels into Saskatchewan.  (big enough for high-speed trains).  El Chapo would sign the contract, but instead would buy Mar a Lago and retire there.  He would commission Chinese engineers to build the tunnels into Canada.  https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2014/05/09/china-may-build-an-undersea-train-to-america/

El Chapo has more dignity than Trump, so let’s nominate him for president.

He would choose Sean Penn as his running mate, and tell the media that Kate del Castillo would be his Secretary of State.  If elected, he would have the White House moved, brick by brick, to Arnold Avenue Park in Winnipeg.  At the Senate in Washington, he would have the white marble bust of Richard Nixon removed and dropped into the Potomac.

Seems very quiet around this place today. What you all up to?

All our pubs reopened today. Madness.

If it makes you feel better, California is re-shutting down after a resurgent COVID outbreak from a slight re-opening.

It’s gotta really hurt small businesses to stock-up and staff-up only to have to shut down again.

And, IMHO, only those inclined to ignore medical experts would congregate (masked OR un-masked) in food/beverage serving establishments - given that open dish-rinsing essentially aerosolizes any viral vectors leftover on dishware or cutlery…

If you call that madness, what would you call it if Boris Johnson held a rally in Trafalgar Square, before a maskless crowd of 7000 shoulder to shoulder people, all cheering as war planes flew over and Johnson said a statue of himself was going to be placed next to Lord Nelson?  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nelson’s_Column

And there is still no word on how, or if, schools will open.  This will be a serious disruption in many ways, and, specifically, since schools are de facto free day care for working parents.  I hope some good comes out of this mess.

MAGA -  Make America Gross Again

Do other developed countries see Trump’s America as anti-science?  Anti-knowledge?  (for example, Trump and his 63 million followers saying that humans causing global warming is a hoax . . . and Trump holding rallies during the pandemic with his supporters shoulder to shoulder with no masks - cheering and chanting).

https://www.newyorker.com/news/our-columnists/to-the-world-were-now-america-the-racist-and-pitiful

The Trump Administration’s ineptitude in handling the covid-19 crisis, as well as the President’s disdain for longstanding allies and international treaties, have compounded the damage to America’s image. A second poll, released last week by the European Council on Foreign Relations, reported that public perceptions of the United States are increasingly negative in virtually all of the European nations surveyed. In France, the country that backed the American Revolution and later donated the Statue of Liberty, forty-six per cent of the people polled said that their opinion of the U.S. has “worsened a lot.” The proportion of respondents who still view America as a key ally is “vanishingly small”—as low as six per cent in Italy.

gross adjective

1.  (especially of wrongdoing) very obvious and unacceptable; blatant.  “gross human rights abuses”

Similar:  flagrant, blatant, glaring, obvious, overt, evident, conspicuous, naked, barefaced, shameless, brazen, audacious, undisguised, scandalous, shocking, disgraceful

villainous
