For anyone not familiar, Philip K. Dick was probably one of the most brilliant fiction writers of the 20th century. Over a dozen movies have been made from his adapted works, including ‘Bladerunner’, ‘Total Recall’, ‘Minority Report’, ‘The Impostor’, and so on.

The latest iteration of Dick’s adapted work(s), Electric Dreams, was released on Amazon Prime today. Like ‘The Man in the High Castle’ before it, Isa Dick Hackett (his daughter) has been instrumental in seeing that her father’s work stayed true to its message.

More geeking out to follow later…

Watched episode 1, it was really good! Finally something to watch on Amazon.

I was somewhat apprehensive about the series being done as an anthology, since PKD’s work is not exactly the easiest to transfer to a cinematic format while retaining the meaning, but that first episode was exactly the mind-fuck that it should have been. I had to stop myself after ‘Autofac’ or I would have ended up watching the entire collection in a single sitting. The unsettling sort of beauty conveyed in those first two episodes alone just served as a reminder to me why my favorite “philosopher” ended up writing science fiction for a living.

Episode 5 is really good, ep1 is still my fav.

Interesting that all the episodes so far are strongly female driven with men being more props. Even the sex scenes are more reversed then the norm, for example the men being fully naked while the women keep their undies on.
