Well that is a relief!  So, we can look forward to just ‘disappearing’.

Of course, this might change with the next pope.

If all will eventually be saved, then why be good?

False alarm.  The Vatican denied the pope made an official pronouncement on the status of Hell, as mentioned at the end of the article.

* In a statement released on Mar. 29, after Scalfari’s report garnered worldwide attention, the Vatican said:

“The Holy Father Francis recently received the founder of the newspaper La Repubblica in a private meeting on the occasion of Easter, without however giving him any interviews [my bold]. What is reported by the author in today’s article [in La Repubblica] is the result of his reconstruction, in which the textual words pronounced by the Pope are not quoted. No quotation of the aforementioned article must therefore be considered as a faithful transcription of the words of the Holy Father.”

You are not off the hook yet, saralynn.

That that it is still unclear after 2000 years tells you that it is bullshit.

That sounds like an argument that atheists accuse believers of.  “The only reason you are good is for fear of hell.”  Being good is good - it’s good to be nice to people, to get along, to not be an asshole, etc.  It’s its own reward (first time I’ve ever used “it’s its “).  I don’t need heaven or hell to act well - that’s the best strategy for this life.

It only tells you that the church is bullshit - religious leaders interpret the text in a way that allows them to control their congregants.

SL:
This is a good example of why we need to check out anything “juicy” we read on the internet.  From Newsweek:

Scalfari, an avowed atheist and the co-founder of La Repubblica, has had several phone calls and in-person meetings with Pope Francis and has said he does not record them or take notes. Afterwards, he recreates the talks from memory, including the quotations he uses.

But, yeah, happy spring!

I am pretty sure that the distortion of the Francis story was made by the Russians to cause dissension in the Catholic Church and probably Protestant churches, as well.  They are seeking to destroy America by means of creating religious and political infighting.  My temptation to become a Catholic has been squashed and I am back to being a Rastafarian.

Agreed.
Hell is a man-made concept used to control ignorant masses for centuries.

At now least Rastafarians can smoke pot for religious reasons.

I think Saralynn, that instead of becoming a Rastafarian, you should become a Pastafarian instead.

Eating pasta will be your communion with god, plus you get to wear this cool head gear:

How nice for us all. But how presumptuous of you to overlay your religious belief onto humanity in-mass.

The majority of humanity does not share your sentiment.

I’m just expressing my opinion.  That’s not presumption - that’s sharing information about what I think.  It doesn’t affect you at all.

“All will be saved”. Am I not included in “All”? If so, I am affected - at least in your mind.

You’re presuming an alternate reality for me - and for mankind - that I don’t agree with. Not that it offends me, it’s just annoying. Your belief that has everyone ending up in ‘heaven, it’s really just as annoying as a Christian believing I’ll end up in hell for my non-belief.
