My wife and I will be in Quebec City and Montreal for a few days in August.  Tell me about French Canadians: do they like or hate Americans?  Do they speak English?  I can say a few things in French and read about 40-50% of it, but I’m rusty.  Are they more like Parisians or more like people from Nice or the French countryside?

Quebecois and Parisian French are not exactly the same.  Sort of like the difference between the Kings English and a Texas accent.

Well, then I’ll stick to Texan and hope someone understands.  Quebec actually offered to help Texas after the Houston flood. There are strong economic ties, so I’m counting on them being at least not hateful. You never know how Americans are perceived these days.  Should I have a T- shirt that says “ I did not vote for Trump”?

Everyone should have that T-shirt.

I heard* that Quebecois don’t like English speaking Canadians and have a shoot-first-ask-questions-later policy.  Don’t take any chances they will recognize your Texas accent.  The State Dept. recommends Americans pack their guns for protection when going there.**

I’ve been on a couple of international trips (Canada and Mexico) since Trump was elected.  When I’m with a group of non-Americans, I’ve said, “Let’s just get this out the way—I didn’t vote for Trump.”  Everyone laughs, jokes ensue, and the vacation goes on.

I was in Canada last summer, kayaking on a group tour.  Every time the German couple passed us in their boat, the man teased us with, “America First, eh?”  My hub and I are not especially strong rowers.

In my limited experience they are super… opinionated… lol, but for the most part pretty warm.

I dunno, but they drink it with poutine, which is a heart attack food, for sure.

Yeah, but if you drink enough beer, it’ll unclog your arteries.

My husband and I figured poutine would be the ideal stoner snack.

I like poutine - had some in Vermont once.  I think I’ll enjoy Quebec.
