Oh that’s great—thanks for sharing. It’s nice to see an organization own up to its error and publicly try to make things right.

I never understood their stance in the first place—I wrote them a letter in protest and while I appreciate that somebody there took the time to reply directly, the explanation really didn’t clear anything up. But it seems that finally common sense won out.

own up to its error and publicly try to make things right ?

Huh?

It was a settlement as a result of a lawsuit which SPLC no way in hell could win. And you make it sound so noble. Why? Because labeling Majid Nawaz as “extrimesit” against Islam would make SPLC look like bunch of imbeciles.  So, they had the insurance pay out the millions for the idiocy.  The news value of this whole saga is that the left has gone off the rails and eager to call anyone and everyone “extremest”,  Hitler, racist, etc.

They are in for a rough year. Following this legal precedent there are now about two hundred pending defamation suits.

They created this mess. I was just pleasantly surprised that the apology didn’t have the usual PR-spin of “apologizing” for a “misunderstanding” nor did it seem to have been drafted primarily by lawyers.

Doesn’t mean they’re off the hook. I wrote them a letter about their mistake on Nawaaz a while back and the reply was baffling. Polite, but almost circular logic.

Not surprising, given that “Islamophobia” is an illogical, dishonest term.
