Possibly the last man who looked good with a mustache.

Yeah, and his humour also made him attractive.  I think he had fun with the whole sex symbol thing and didn’t take it too seriously while using it to his advantage.

His reason for growing said mustache?

People used to follow me on the street, thinking I was Marlon Brando. At first, it got on my nerves, and then it just flat p****d me off.

Even his sister, Jocelyn, whom I worked with on a TV show, would tell me how much I looked like him — and I’d say: ‘Thank you, I guess.’ The main reason I grew a moustache was to stop those kind of comments.

My lost fortune, broken marriages and THAT career-wrecking centrefold: BURT REYNOLDS reveals how he blew it all in painfully - and hilariously - honest memoir written before he died aged 82

Imagine looking like Marlon Brando being one of your “problems”.

“He famously appeared naked - reclining on a bearskin rug with his arm strategically positioned for the sake of modesty - in a centerfold in the women’s magazine Cosmopolitan in 1972.”

I didn’t see all, or even most of his movies, but the one role he played that will always stand out in my mind is the character of Jack Horner in “Boogie Nights.”

I think he was extraordinary in that one. He played a director and producer of porn films, which some people would find distasteful, but he played the part with compassion, humor and a fatherly essence that was captivating.

I’ll always remember him for that role.
