The Sexual Obsession Thread:

Religion, culture, society, humanity, the world, is obsessed with sex and controlling it, so here’s a thread for posting and discussing our obsession with sex.

Who, me? Obsessed? It goes way, way back, to the time when men felt they had to control women’s sexual habits to ensure that their offspring were their own, and women felt they had to control the men to make sure they were not distracted by having to raise “the other woman’s” kids. So, over time, concepts like virginity and marriage crept in as social institutions, and then those were reinforced by religious, tribal and cultural means. This kept society safe and orderly.  This all started breaking down in the 60’s, and now you are having a reactionary response to the pendulum swinging the other way, as the old order begins to crumble. We’ll go through this for a few decades, and then at some point in the future nobody will care anymore. Marriage will be a relic of the past, birth control/STD prevention will be available to all, and women will make their own decisions about their own pregnancies, if anyone gets pregnant any more.

The sexism/equality argument may go on a little longer. Men are invested in having a bit more power, and power is even harder to give up than concerns about sex.

It is only people obsessed with the sex other people are having who can’t stop talking about it.

Internet porn has created a wonderful outlet for frustrated youths, as well as convinced people that their particular kind of sexual interest isn’t pathological but rather common.

There is no question that a lot of the violence in the Middle East comes from a religion/culture that doesn’t allow masturbation or sex before marriage.

We live in a post-procreational society, where sex is completely divorced from making babies or getting STDs.
The religious nuts are correct that traditional marriage is under threat - because partners no longer have a specific role to fulfill.

Well, I google-searched for ‘cartoons, sexual obsession’.

And lo and behold, this came up:

Schediaphilia:  schediaphilia or toonophilia is the primary and exclusive sexual attraction to cartoon or anime characters.  A person with this attraction feels love, sexual arousal, or emotional attraction to virtual characters.

I guess it takes all kinds, eh?

Sweden’s ad regulator says ‘Distracted Boyfriend’ meme is sexist

Sexist? Should it be regulated/illegal?

My understanding from the article is that this is a real photo from a situation in Barcelona. If it’s a real photo, how could it be sexist? It simply portrays something that really happened.  If it’s a staged photo, it still portrays reality.  It doesn’t say all men or all women are like this, but certainly some act this way.  So I’m not seeing it as sexists.  This is more in the category of hyper-sensitivity - more people wanting to be outraged about something. There are more pressing problems.

TBH, I’d rather people had very weird fantasies about drawn depictions of persons of questionable legal age, than the real deal. Also avoids questions of exploitation and trafficking.

Haha, true enough.  And one wouldn’t accidentally become involved with such a person as they’re not interested in flesh-and-blood partners.

True story.  When my wife and I were travelling, I was usually driving.  If she saw a sexy, attractive female, she would call my attention to her.  Once, at the beach, we were in the water about chest deep, I was looking toward the Gulf and my wife was looking toward the beach.  She said, “Runner on the beach.”  I turned to see a tall, blond, tan, bikini-clad beauty jogging along the beach carrying small hand-weights.  My wife said, “She’s hot, isn’t she?”  I agreed.

I think marriage is here to stay – only that it’s changing, and that some of these changes are for the better.  For those who are of the monogamous type, a partnership between ‘equals’ provides much-needed companionship, intimacy, and insulation from loneliness.

It may not just be about making babies anymore, but children still take a long time to raise and there’s advantages to having two parents.  I also think that, in general, married (legal or common law) people get more sex.

‘Robot sex brothel’ slated to open is not wanted, Houston’s mayor says

The company opened its first location last year near Toronto, where $60 buys a half-hour alone with a robot sex doll, according to the Examiner. The dolls start at $2,500.

. . .

The business does not meet the definition of a sexually oriented business and requires simply an occupancy permit, ABC 7 News reported.

Despite concerns, there are no regulations for the sex robot business, the Examiner reported, prompting calls for legislative action from legal experts and activists.

Men having sex with a machine is questionably legal, but women buying vibrators is legal and big business.  I call sexism!!!

Sure, but that’s because women have the good sense to buy, not rent.

It was a stock photo for an ad that was deemed sexist.

We just need Purell to develop a line of sanitizing lube.

(P.S. ICK!)

Had to happen, its the future, cuz real women are to much trouble.

I love how they even got a save the children call in there.

The Curbing Realistic Exploitative Electronic Pedophilic Robots (CREEPER) Act was introduced by Rep. Dan Donovan, R-N.Y., who said such robots can lead to predators abusing children.
