This dovetails nicely with other research on social organization, the desirability and even pressure to conform, and political coalition forming, not to mention Schelling’s much older work on self-segregation given even weak initial preferences.  And the article was a pretty easy read for a formal modelling paper—not crazy intensively mathematical, which works for me.

People avoid confronting internal biases so that it’s easier to ignore falsifiable imformation. The group fucks everyone up by emotionally reinforcing it until it becomes reflexive. What’s left is lazy fallacious political thinking.

I already believed/knew this since you can look around and see people doing it in religion, sports, politics, social media, subcultures and even right here in our little microcosm.  We love tribes and teams.
