I’m going to Russia in July, so I decided to tackle War & Peace. 1455 pages. I’m hoping to finish it by then. It can be pretty interesting, but boy is it long!

In its original language? ;-)
When you’re in Russia, keep an eye out for Trump’s infamous “Pee Tape”.
And stay away from the Ritz Carlton in Moscow, or Putin will have a tape with you in it.
If it were me, I would focus on the fabulous old-world architecture. It is full of exuberance, optimism and joy. You are unlikely to find those anywhere else… including the Tolstoy.
What, no Brothers Karamazov?
What, no Brothers Karamazov?
I read that, Crime & Pun., and The Idiot years ago. W&P is the current challenge.

Lord, no. It’s hard enough in English.

I’ll never forget Prince Andrew lying on the battlefield watching his blood run into the grass. “How beautiful the blue sky and clouds! Why didn’t I look at the sky more often?” (paraphrase from a distant memory) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkxFHoHbvjo

Funny, I just read that part tonight before coming here.

When you come home, before visiting New Bedford, MA you have to read Moby Dick, an easy 500+ pages that ruined Melville’s career.

I’ve read Moby. I have been through New Bedford. I think Mario lives there.

I started on Crime & Punishment back in the mid-70s when I was living in the basement apartment with an elderly lady living in the house above. I stopped reading early on.

I guess this proves what a music geek I must be. Or, maybe just a geek.
This is the only song I know that references Raskolnikov or any other reference to Dostoevsky. It’s a song by the band Magazine named “Philadelphia,” recorded in 1980.
Everything’d be just fine
If I had the right pastime
I’d've been Raskolnikov
But Mother Nature ripped me off

I’ve never read Dostoevsky. I started the “The Brothers Karamazov,” but never got through it. I admire EN for sticking with W + P.
Blinkist should have a 15 min summary.
I’m sure it’s just as good as the whole book.
