Obesity is caused by eating more calories then you need, it really is that simple, eat less then you need and you lose weight, no magic, no bullshit. But if someone has a medical condition that can be excepted.

4. Aggressive Marketing

Junk food producers are very aggressive marketers.

Their tactics can get unethical at times and they sometimes try to market very unhealthy products as healthy foods.

These companies also make misleading claims. What’s worse, they target their marketing specifically towards children.

In today’s world, children are becoming obese, diabetic and addicted to junk foods long before they’re old enough to make informed decisions about these things.

See other causes in article.

Recently I watched a reenactment of the Civil War battle at Shiloh Church.  It was very well done - but in the withering fire I was struck by how ‘hefty’ many of the soldiers were . . .  2019 Civil War buffs, our neighbors, not 1862 volunteers and recruits.

That is just excuses, they can’t overcome the laws of physics, you can’t store more calories then you consume. I can guarantee you that if you eat less calories then you use you WILL lose weight, period.

In the Discovery Channel’s Naked and Afraid episodes, both men and women lose about 20 lbs in 21 days.  Typically they find almost nothing to eat during their 3 weeks in the wilds.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naked_and_Afraid

Hard-won 3 minnows for dinner is cause for celebration, though the effort cost them 700 calories plus being bitten by leeches while wading in the stream.

Yep, that’s how it works. For my body weight I burn ~110cal a mile so I have to run 2mi to burn off a damn cookie. Or to put it another way, I have to run the Boston marathon 1.5x to lose a pound of fat. Once you look at what you have to do to get rid of calories you truly understand the saying ” a moment on the lips, forever on the hips”.

Then the mouth is also the organ that causes you to lose weight.

https://www.thediabetescouncil.com/can-diabetes-bankrupt-country/

“Diabetes is not only expensive for those who have the disease, but it is also expensive for the government and countries that those people live in.

Currently, the worldwide cost of diabetes is 825 billion dollars per year. Unfortunately, that cost is only going to increase because diabetes is one of the fastest growing health problems in the world.

To put it in numbers, in the 1970’s, diabetes cost 1 billion dollars per year. The number increased to 116 billion in 2007, and is now more than 7 times that. It is estimated that by 2035, 600 million people will have diabetes and 90% of those patients will be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, which is a preventable disease.”

It’s like global warming.  We’re walking into this one with eyes wide shut.  2035?  What is that, 16 years from now?

20 teaspoons a day?

https://www.sharecare.com/health/kids-teens-health/article/new-warning-labels-truth-about-sugar

“If it seems like your children are always begging for a lollipop or coming home from school with a sweet treat, it’s probably because they are. American children devour a staggering amount of sugar. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), teens and children consume over 320 calories from added sugar each day—that’s roughly 20 teaspoons!”

A typical candy bar has about 5 tsp sugar.  12 oz Pepsi = 10 tsp.  Demonstrate this to yourself and family - fill glass with 12 oz water, then add 10 tsp sugar.  MORE HAPPY!

Juice.  The root of our obesity problem by Penelope Leach

“Many families are trying to reduce their soda intake but manufacturers are fighting back with “no added sugar” formulations and “fruit” drinks. So far, they’re winning.

A drink of diluted fruit juice is the routine afternoon snack of many babies. It’s often the good stuff: pure juice. No nasty preservatives, more vitamin C than necessary and no added sugar. But you don’t have to add sugar to make fruit juice sweet—that’s why babies prefer it to water. And because they prefer it, it becomes habitual. An afternoon drink becomes an all-the-time drink that grows with the baby. As they get older, they drink less expensive “fruit” drinks and sodas, which become empty calories and unwanted pounds.

With babies’ tummies full of sweet stuff they’ll want less milk or solid food, so overall nutrition is at risk. If babies who want a nonmilk drink are routinely given plain water, that’s what they will expect. [for parents] It’s probably the most important single thing you can do to prevent cavities and obesity.”
