. . . would you ever agree to discontinue your nuclear-weapons program? Or is such a question rhetorical? (I suspect it sort of is.)

Once South Korea is under control from Pyongyang and democracy is suspended would be a good time to talk about nuclear disarmament.

No.  What is the advantage of doing so?

Trump is using Kim to get attention because it is low hanging fruit.  Trump does not have the will, desire, or intelligence to attend to real problems at home which help Americans.  His only interest is how to help himself.  Kim knows this and is using Trump to strengthen his power at home by showing his people he can take on the Americans.

Doesn’t it seem possible that Kim sees Trump with affection (for lack of a better word choice) similar to the affection he seems to feel for Dennis Rodman? All three seem to share a similar kind of wackiness.

Still, Kim won’t soon be junking his nukes. At best, Trump might perhaps have a shot at convincing Kim to stop producing new weapons.

I was surprised when President Moon crossed over into North Korea, since Kim’s grandfather attempted to have South Korea’s leader assassinated in the late 1960s. (Trump was probably too stupid to be afraid for his safety.) Moon’s willingness to risk his life says something positive about how relations there are going.

I couldn’t agree more. It’s highly unlikely Kim would ever denuclearize his country. Nuclear armament is intertwined with North Korean national pride. Thus the more likely scenario is that Kim is playing Trump while bolstering his credibility and increasing his opportunities for economic wins for his country. He will string Trump along until the next US administration, then rinse and repeat.

No to giving up the nukes (see where that got Iran). Yes, to giving up the haircut.

Kim is using Trump to appear important and relevant on the world stage.  It’s a mutual admiration society of dictators or wannabe dictators.

Yes. It’s fairly clear that Trump admires Kim, and it doesn’t actually matter so much whether or not Kim admires Trump, since Kim will need to deal with future U.S. presidents and therefore will always be an adversary to Trump, till Trump retires, anyway. I picture future elaborate and expensive partying Trump, Rodman and Kim will enjoy together once Trump has retired.

In a distant way, and as luxurious as Kim Jong Un’s upbringing must have been, North Korea, and therefor Kim as well, are still being emotionally dominated by their past, i.e., the way Americans bombed them to smithereens for highly questionable reasons back in the 1950s. And before that marvelous bit of history took place, all of Korea had been under the unspeakably brutal thumb of Japan for decades. The Soviets had taught the original Kim exactly how to go about imprisoning and torturing certain residents, and the current Kim sees no reason to risk the luxury he’s inherited by changing his methods because changing his methods would literally kill him. It’s the most interesting story of the day, in my opinion.

I’m glad Obama arranged for the death of Osama bin Laden before Trump could make friends with him.

Kissing Kim’s ass should inspire the Iranians to revive their efforts to build a nuclear bomb so Trump will pucker up for them, too.  Maybe Kim will send his advisors and diagrams to Iran since Trump will defend his new buddy, and the GOP and Fox News will be cool with it.

For every act of horror committed by North Korea, a hundred have been committed by the U.S. Maybe we should stop talking to ourselves, too.

While Trump is in office, you don’t have to give him any actual agreement to do anything other than a photo op.  Trump doesn’t care about policy results, he just wants photos in the newspaper that make him look like a president.
