The phrase “only-begotten son refers not to Jesus the man but to the Second Person of the Trinity, God the Son, who is said to have become incarnate in the man Jesus.

Working off of this, when Jesus said that “I am the way, the truth and the life - no one comes to the Father but by me”, that was the Logos, God the Son, speaking.  Modern Christians take that to mean that one must become a baptized or confessing Christian to get to the Father, but it could just as easily mean that the approach to God is through the Logos, whatever manner it presents itself to you, even if in the form of another incarnation.

I mean, even the most generous narrative is of a decently chill but still super grandiose delusional dude who tricked a ton of the locals to drink the cool aid.

I get the allure of great men - and in particular this dude - but I see a lot of conflating humanizing his godliness with normalizing his fuckeduptitude.

You rarely hear conversations about religious history.  They mainly revolve around individual personal experiences.  Feeding into egos and tying up the Funway.  It sucks for those of us who’ve thrown out the magic baby Jesus with the holy water.

Even the agnostics are holy nowadays.

That’s probably true. Also heresy to some, I would imagine.

Certainly heresy, but interesting to think about.

So we have a guy who’s convinced that god speaks through him and that’s somehow less psychotic?

It is only psychotic if it is not true, and that is the point at issue. I realize you are 100% convinced that it is not true, but that is meaningless to anyone except you.

Bottom-line is no one knows what Jesus said or did, if anything, everything you believe was all ascribed to him by other men long after he was dead.

And to the millions of people who also think that humans can’t be gods. But point taken, because we’ve been here before and you’re my boy. You should know, though, that ripped-hippie Jesus is a close contender for my favorite Jesus. I also really like chill-delusional jesus, but I hate smug baby jesus. And don’t get me started on grandiose-spiteful Jesus. Does anyone know why high school Jesus fell so far off the radar?

Yeah, but you got to admit that if even a fraction of his following was true, he got a ton of tail.

Well we know for sure all the men who came after him got tail using his name.

Name dropping Jesus was probably golden back then. Oh how the times have change, though, because BM actually knows Jesus personally and his dick hasn’t worked since his wife sucked the holy spirit out of it.
