I’ve maintained all along that if Trump had won as a Democrat, and conducted himself just exactly the way he is now except for being on the opposite side of certain issues, that the Democrats would be defending him with the same arguments the Republicans are now, and the Republicans would be attacking him with the same arguments the Democrats are now.

Here’s a short video from CNN that shows members of our two political parties making the exact same arguments for and against impeachment that their opponents did during the Clinton impeachment.

How can any patriotic American continue to belong to either party when they’re both so obviously self-serving and hypocritical?

Didn’t you answer your own question?  Independents are the largest “party”.

There is no comparison between lying about consensual sex and lying about actual criminal acts. I can side with what Clinton, but not Trump.

I don’t debate the point about hypocrisy but I’m not following how pure conjecture counts as evidence.

The Republicans had Ken Starr investigate Clinton on Whitewater for two years, and he came up empty, except he stumbled upon a claim Clinton was having an affair, and changed course to follow that, then caught him lying about it.  Compare that to Trump publicly inviting foreign involvement in our elections, admitting he twisted the Ukrainian president’s arm to announce an investigation on Biden, stating there is nothing wrong with what he did until he was told by his lawyers it was wrong so then he denied he did it, then refused to cooperate with a Congressional investigation and instructed his staff to do the same.

How in the actual fuck are they the same?

You are certainly correct to a degree. The Democrats used to serve the middle class up until Bill Clinton became president. Then Clinton embraced neoliberalism:

Neoliberalism is generally associated with policies of economic liberalization, including privatization, deregulation, free trade, austerity, and reductions in government spending in order to increase the role of the private sector in the economy and society. — Wikipedia

The Democrats then became the “Republican-Lite” party. Basically, they competed with the Republicans for corporate sponsorship and passed regulation that would help the corporations and well-to-do while turning their backs on the middle class and poor.

Obama followed the same path. Instead of breaking up the banks that were “too big to fail” in 2008 and prosecuting the white collar criminal CEOs who ran them, he bailed them out with tax payer money and let 8 million people lose their homes.

Nonetheless, even with this un-democratic Democratic party, they still stand for a few things that make them radically different from the Republicans: support of science; acknowledgment that global warming is happening and must be dealt with; equal rights for women and minorities; common sense gun regulation; freedom from religion.

The Republicans represent the opposite: anti-science; rejection of global warming; dogwhistle support for white supremacy; a pro NRA stance; support for the religious/political goals of Evangelical zealots.

Besides this, the Republican Party is now the party of the Cult of Donald Trump.

If Trump were a Democrat would they support him against impeachment? No. Look what the Dems did to Senator Al Franken. He did nothing inappropriate, but the slightest appearance of it made him have to resign.

There is a term that has been around for a long time which is used to describe our two party system: The Evil Party, and the Stupid Party.

Without a doubt, the Republicans are the evil party. You know what that makes the Democrats. I’ll pick stupid over evil any day if there’s no other choice.

What Cheshire Cat said.

Moreover, taking the high road of not associating with any (i.e., either) party that puts political expediency above principals allows you to either associate with no political party or a losing one. People, after all, are supposed to organize and vote according to their economic and ideological interests. That, after all, is what the political aspect of modern economic theory and certain genres of political theory judge to be true. If you are not doing so, and instead voting on moral principles, you are not being a loyal American, true to the capitalist foundations of the nation.

[Before answering, please notice the sarcasm buried in the inaccuracies.]

This is just not true anymore.

The democrats have fully embraced the pseudo science of gender studies.

They are largely themselves responsible for people not believing in climate change due to their crying wolf too many times with ridiculously exaggerated failed predictions and actions inconsistent with their current predictions (e.g., buying beachfront properties).

Their defense of islam is more worrying to me than any pandering to a rapidly fading western Christianity.

Women and minorities already have equal rights.

The democrats support anti white racism more openly than the republicans support any other racism.

The only issue that remains clear cut like you say is gun control.
