Trump called the warnings about the Coronavirus epidemic from other countries and his own appointees at the CDC a hoax put out by the Democratic Party, and he has since fallen for the hoax, at least partly.  Or was he lying about the epidemic being a hoax?

His credibility has been downgraded from worthless to dangerous.  I will not listen to any directives from the federal government, even the CDC, since all federal announcements seem to pass through the Trump filter for approval.  I take direction on this epidemic only from the governor and local health officials.

Indeed, any statement made by Trump is dangerous, and expert advice given in his presence is circumspect, since it seems no one dares say anything that might upset our MisLeader.
Luckily, the WHO and health organizations in other countries can give actual advice.

Even with his bumbling incompetence, self-contradiction, and out-right lying, Trump still has his cult-like base to count on. He knows, however, that they are not enough to get him re-elected since his base hasn’t increased, but stayed pretty much stagnant at around 40%. He desperately needs independent voters to vote for him, and even Democrats, if he can get them.

Throughout all of Trump’s reality television presidency, the one thing he could count on, the one ace up his sleeve, was the economy. Things had been moving along fairly well, with low unemployment and an ever climbing stock market.

Well, all that has changed. There’s no telling what the economy will be like come November. The one thing he counted on to get him re-elected, may completely fall apart in the coming months.

And, there’s also the very real possibility that he will totally bungle the federal government’s response to the Coronavirus pandemic. If he insists on sending people back to work by Easter, despite warnings by health experts and an ever climbing infection rate, he will be exposing all Americans to severe health risks. Even his base may blame him if the virus rages unhindered and granny and gramps die because of it.

He can blame the Democrats all he wants to, but people will take it personally when a president makes a decision to put an abstract idea like “the economy,” above the health of themselves and their family members.

My conspiracy theory about coronavirus testing is that Trump won’t allow it because if those numbers go up then his go down, and he has a lot of explaining to do.  Better to continue the act as long as possible while Congress figures out how to use the crisis to funnel money to their highest paying constituents, and when the people demand the money for health care they can say it will trickle down through the corporations.  I say take the money from the corporate subsidies and military budget.

And continue playing the blame game, which may help the people feel better about their superiority over the filthy Chinese, and distracts the people from demanding something be done.

By the way, this is a great (not) time to put America’s private medical industry to the test.  I have a bottle of Diplomatico rum that says the insurance industry will do what they can to get money from Washington, then deny claims without recourse.

Unless he is sure he can win in November, Trump will use this pandemic to cancel the election.  Can there be universal voting by mail?  https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2020-election/coronavirus-worst-case-scenario-could-presidential-vote-be-done-mail-n1168151

We can be sure that Trump is looking enviously at Putin’s chances to stay in power until 2034.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PI_pNJdL5s0

I think this is a very real concern.

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/intelligence-report-warned-coronavirus-crisis-early-november-sources/story?id=70031273

As far back as late November, U.S. intelligence officials were warning that a contagion was sweeping through China’s Wuhan region, changing the patterns of life and business and posing a threat to the population, according to four sources briefed on the secret reporting.

Concerns about what is now known to be the novel coronavirus pandemic were detailed in a November intelligence report by the military’s National Center for Medical Intelligence (NCMI), according to two officials familiar with the document’s contents.

The report was the result of analysis of wire and computer intercepts, coupled with satellite images. It raised alarms because an out-of-control disease would pose a serious threat to U.S. forces in Asia—forces that depend on the NCMI’s work. And it paints a picture of an American government that could have ramped up mitigation and containment efforts far earlier to prepare for a crisis poised to come home.

“Analysts concluded it could be a cataclysmic event,” one of the sources said of the NCMI’s report. “It was then briefed multiple times to” the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Pentagon’s Joint Staff and the White House.

From that warning in November, the sources described repeated briefings through December for policy-makers and decision-makers across the federal government as well as the National Security Council at the White House. All of that culminated with a detailed explanation of the problem that appeared in the President’s Daily Brief of intelligence matters in early January, the sources said. For something to have appeared in the PDB, it would have had to go through weeks of vetting and analysis, according to people who have worked on presidential briefings in both Republican and Democratic administrations.
