June 28 - quote:  “It was a startling declaration about one of the pillars of American democracy, all the more so given its source.

The president of the United States last week publicly predicted without evidence that the 2020 presidential election would be “the most corrupt election in the history of our country.”

“We cannot let this happen,” Donald Trump told an audience of young supporters at a Phoenix megachurch. “They want it to happen so badly.”

“Just over four months before Election Day, the president is escalating his efforts to cast doubt on the integrity of the vote.”

quote:  “Never,” said presidential historian Douglas Brinkley when asked whether any past U.S. president had ever used such language. “What you’re seeing is someone who’s an autocrat or a dictator in action.”  (read more in this June 28 AP article)

Hasn’t he been tooting this horn the whole time? Ever since he thought he was going to lose to Hillary?

Think about it this way: the guy cut his teeth in politics by owning casinos and he’s about to go all in on a pretty bad hand.

Unless Biden has a total meltdown during a debate, has a stroke, or dies, it’s looking better and better that he will beat Trump in November.

https://tinyurl.com/yaldqwpy

I don’t think the American people will buy the claim of massive “voter fraud,” unless Trump suddenly becomes much more popular by November, and his approval rating increases dramatically. He’s currently at a low 40%. I suppose he could declare war on Iran and get people to “rally around the commander and chief,” but Trump, to his credit, has been reluctant to play the “war card.” I can’t see him trying this tactic this late in the game.

Republican governors can try and prevent democrats from voting by closing voting locations and striking them off of voter lists, but it will take an awful lot of this to make up a 9% Trump deficit, if it stays at this level.

A few weeks ago, when Trump was saying how he wanted to bring the military in to stop the protests and looting, the military showed absolutely no support for this idea. This is important. Every would-be dictatorship needs the support of the military. If Trump tries a desperate Hail Mary and claims there has been massive “voter fraud” or “foreign interference,” or whatever, and declares that the election is null and void, I don’t think the military will support him if he tries to get their backing.

Trump could try and claim that mail-in ballots are invalid because they are subject to fraud, but it seems like a legal bridge too far. But who knows? The right leaning Supreme Court could go for it. Or not. Probably not.

This leaves his unhinged, gun-loving militias, boogaloo boys, white supremacists and Clint Eastwood wannabes to launch a violent civil war. I don’t see it happening. I think they are all show and no balls. Plus, who would they attack? The state capitals? Washington D.C.? Do they think they can get the upper hand against the National Guard who have tanks and attack helicopter support? I doubt it. Better to hang out in your underground bunker while cradling your AR-15 and watching Fox News.

In Trump’s mind, if he loses in November it will be the same as Jesus Christ losing.  In his mind only fraud and the fifth column could make this happen.  He is telling his supporters that if he loses it is because the enemies of the people have rigged the election and they must not accept this.

He sees his 63 million votes in 2016 as a clear majority, claiming that millions of Hillary’s 66 million votes were fraudulent mail-in ballots etc.  His 63 million believe him?

I doubt if he would feel that way, he doesn’t seem to give a damn about religion, but I’ll bet his Evangelical followers would.

Maybe, if Trump loses, it will shake their beliefs and cause them to reconsider their assumption that he is “God’s Chosen One.”

Well, but there’s Trump’s assumption that he is God’s Chosen One.

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/spycatcher/201208/dangerous-cult-leaders

quote from this 2012 article:  “If you know of a cult leader who has many of these traits there is a high probability that they are hurting those around them emotionally, psychologically, physically, spiritually, or financially. And of course this does not take into account the hurt that their loved ones will also experience.

Here are the typical traits of the pathological cult leader (from Dangerous Personalities) that you should watch for:

He has a grandiose idea of who he is and what he can achieve.
Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, or brilliance.
Demands blind, unquestioned obedience.
Requires excessive admiration from followers and outsiders.
Has a sense of entitlement—expecting to be treated as special at all times.
Is exploitative of others by asking for their money or that of relatives, putting others at financial risk.
Is arrogant and haughty in his behavior or attitude.
Has an exaggerated sense of power (entitlement) that allows him to bend rules and break laws.
Takes sexual advantage of members of his sect or cult.
Sex is a requirement with adults and sub adults as part of a ritual or rite.
Is hypersensitive to how he is seen or perceived by others.
Publicly devalues others as being inferior, incapable, or not worthy.
Makes members confess their sins or faults, publicly subjecting them to ridicule or humiliation while revealing exploitable weaknesses of the penitent.
Has ignored the needs of others, including: biological, physical, emotional, and financial needs.
Is frequently boastful of accomplishments.
Needs to be the center of attention and does things to distract others to ensure that he or she is being noticed, e.g., by arriving late, using exotic clothing, overdramatic speech, or by making theatrical entrances.
Has insisted on always having the best of anything (house, car, jewelry, clothes) even when others are relegated to lesser facilities, amenities, or clothing.
Doesn’t seem to listen well to needs of others; communication is usually one-way, in the form of dictates.
Haughtiness, grandiosity, and the need to be controlling is part of his personality.
Behaves as though people are objects to be used, manipulated or exploited for personal gain.
When criticized he tends to lash out not just with anger but with rage.
Anyone who criticizes or questions him is called an “enemy.”
Refers to non-members or non-believers as “the enemy.”
Acts imperious at times, not wishing to know what others think or desire.
Believes himself to be omnipotent.
Has “magical” answers or solutions to problems.
Is superficially charming.”

This is the first time I have seriously questioned a peaceful transition of power if Trump loses.

Do you mean you wonder if there will be a peaceful transition of power if Trump loses?

It’s what Putin wants, and at this point it might be the only way Trump can forcibly stay in power.

I don’t think America can take another 4 years of a Putin administration.
