Since waiting in long lines at the polls puts people at greater risk of exposure to coronavirus, why hasn’t the government arranged for universal mail-in-ballots such as those used by Washington state?

Short answer:. The more people who vote, the less likely the GOP wins.

This is why they’ve been trying to make voting difficult in strategic ridings.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-mail-in-voting-ballot-drop-boxes/

quote:  Washington — President Trump has opened a new front in his war on mail-in voting, adding ballot drop boxes to his enemy list even as they’re mostly being embraced as a way to expand access to voting. He has been stoking fears that mail-in voting invites voter fraud and is suggesting ballots could be tampered with once voters deposit them into drop boxes.

“So now the Democrats are using Mail Drop Boxes, which are a voter security disaster. Among other things, they make it possible for a person to vote multiple times. Also, who controls them, are they placed in Republican or Democrat areas? They are not Covid sanitized. A big fraud!” the president tweeted Sunday.

Twitter placed a “public interest notice” on the tweet for “violating our Civic Integrity Policy for making misleading health claims that could potentially dissuade people from participation in voting.”  (end quote)

Is there a common denominator that would include a majority of Trump’s 63 million supporters?  I’ve been wondering if it’s anything like the common denominator of all the people who pooh-poohed Darwin’s ‘Origin of Species’ in November, 1859.  (a conviction still alive and well today in America)
