From a summary of the British Columbia leadership debate: Last night, the leaders of BC’s three major parties squared off for 90 minutes in the only televised debate of BC’s 2020 election. As compared to certain other televised debates of late, it was a markedly civil affair, with moderator Shachi Kurl praising all participants as deserving of “a cookie.”

Well, that’s one good example.  I’m tempted to list others here, but wouldn’t know where to start.

Since the Trump-era I’ve become even more aware of Canadian superiority.  Yup ... superiority.  Sure, we’re far from perfect and are a work-in-progress, but we’re better than them in every category I can think of.  Just sayin’ ...

Give me a break.  I’ve met Newfies, and we’re not as bad as them.

Haha.  I meant political categories ...
You mean like the Newfoundlanders who landed dozens of American planes in seconds?  They’re our salt-of-the-earth people.

(Just noticed LJ had a similar response.)

Sheesh. . .  Most Canadians I knew took swipes at the baby seal killing Newfies, so I just piled on.

Folks around here need only head to Detroit’s Hart Plaza to gaze across the river at Canada. Being America’s next shore neighbor, you would expect the shoreline of Windsor to be lined with shouting and cursing Canadians hurling cabbages and pounding their broom handles on the underside of the bridge.

But they don’t. That says a lot.

Didn’t Journey make that part of Detroit famous in a song?

They did close the bridge.  That says a lot.

Don’t know about that. Brits make lousy tourist. No one up here calls I-75 the Dixie Highway.

If you look south from Hart Plaza, it’s Windsor, Canada… so a kid who grew up in “south” Detroit would be Canadian.

Oh right. South Detroit.
One must be careful with lyrics that need an extra syllable to fit the melody. Ypsilanti would have fit nicely.

A better plot for a South D-town would be Zug Island but nobody comes from there. Except the zombies.

The most striking difference is the level of racism and misogyny.  It certainly exists here, like anywhere else, but the unwillingness to admit the legacy of brutality in the United States is astounding.  Also, it helps when you have a Prime Minister who isn’t okay with it.  Spanky has a dog whistle that reaches round the world.  Canadians are more likely to call out their own party and hold each other accountable.  We have a legacy too. Especially concerning Americans.  We’ll ask you very nicely…then call you an asshole as we’re walking away.

Right on, sister!
I’m still laughing at the last sentence ... so true.

It stands to reason. American kids are subject to punishment if they don’t do well enough in their asshole lessons.

American politics is covered well in the documentaries “Scarface” and “Idiocracy.”
