Maybe I’ve been doing it wrong?

If I want to quote another poster and I want to split their post into several different quotes, is there a feature that does the opening and closing <quote> tags for me? Or do I have to provide all of the opening and closing tags by hand, either by typing them or copy and pasting them?

Select some text and hit

quote

on the upper option bar.

It works on both

vowels

and

consonants

.

That’s cool, but not what I was looking for. sorry for the poor phrasing.

Here’s a paragraph of stuff.
See if you can use your approach.
To separate each of these lines.
Attribute them to me.
And insert your own comments between lines.
thanks.

I clicked on quote to get the attribution. I selected the text and hit quote then removed the redundant starting code.

Now I can break you up into separate boxes. However,

Attribute them to me.

The only way to have later boxes do that is by copying the original attribution and pasting it over the starting code.

thanks.

Or, I can paste the attribution where the breaks are wanted.

Or re-enter the name.

For multi-patron quoting, open a second reply page and copy from it.

try this:

[ quote ]—- opens a quote block (remove spaces)

[ / quote ]—- closes a quote block (remove spaces)

If you click the quote button you’ll see text that looks like author=“icehorse” date=“1619325985” at the beginning of a quote block—- after the word quote, before the closing square-bracket, that shows attribution and date stamp of the originally quoted block.  You can add that to further blocks of the quoted material too.  (Just don’t change the attribution…)

Sprinkle those through the block of text you want to break up to get a bunch of quote-blocks in your own post.  Make sure you use the close tag appropriately or you’ll get broken blocks and misapplied attributions.

I like to click ‘quote’ and copy/paste the whole thing into a wordpad or notepad and then spend as much time as I need moving opening/closing/attribution marks around until I’m satisfied.  Just remember that every open quote tag needs a closing quote tag to complete it.

Thanks Jefe,

This sounds very similar to what I’ve been doing.
