“If you want your content to get engagement, it has to spark emotion. Specifically, what behavioral scientists call “high-arousal emotion.”

So simple, but so effective.

“If you want your content to get engagement, it has to spark emotion. Specifically, what behavioral scientists call “high-arousal emotion.”

So simple, but so effective.

For example:

1. all illegal immigrants are rapists and drug dealers
2. the election was rigged
3. all lives matter
4. BLM is a terrorist organization
5. Mike Pence needs to pay for his cowardice
6. Putin and Kim Jong Il are my homies
7. COVID-19 is a Chinese hoax perpetuated by the Democrats to wreck my re-election chances
8. There are good people on both sides
9. If the protestors broke down the fence they would have been met with vicious dogs and ominous weapons.  I felt totally safe with the Secret Service protecting me from the organized and coordinated violent protestors.
10. They were just normal tourists

The bit about smart skepticism and dumb skepticism spoke to me.  Recognizing the high arousal motives and stepping around it.  Whether someone is selling a book or merely looking to get attention I think it’s important to know when yer being manipulated.  Without scrutiny you won’t know when yer being lied to and that leaves the potential for spreading more lies.
