In the year 79 AC, the nice, quiet, and ((happy)) town of Pompeii had been buried under tons and tons and tons (4- 6 meters) of Vesuvius volcano molten lava, spewed ash and rock, and toxic gases too.

There are still many mysteries about that town and what happened to it, the buildings, the rites, the habits, the wall paintings,:.etc.
One of these mysteries was that man, who was sitting in some corner, waiting and suffering to death, why he didn’t try to escape? Why his nervous and muscle systems didn’t react in the normal way? What was he thinking about?

What other mysteries you know and what could be the explanation!!

He was reading 55.37 of the Qura’n and thinking ... “so true, so true!”

By the way, samy, when you Bing “Qura’n 55.37,” the first entry that comes up is your forum thread, page 3, “Islam is best relegion.” How about that? You’re a celebrity!

Or he was lusting after someone’s wife and Allah spanked him?

He’d been taught to “duck and cover.”

An evolution question would belong on the Science thread.

I had the opportunity to explore the ruins of Pompeii in 2007. Needless to say, it was quite breathtaking. Our tour guide was a curator at a local museum as well as a professor of anthropology at a university in Naples. He explained that one of the prominent theories surrounding the victims of Pompeii and their decision to stay hinges on religion. It is believed that many of the citizens either believed they would be spared through homage, sacrifice and other rites and also perhaps that some of them may have been ordered to stay by the priests of the various gods. If these scholars are correct, then this is most definitely another ‘DOH!’ moment in religious history.

We can’t speak for the dead, but waiting for death with composure while chaos abounds is not unusual.

As he burned he never moved a muscle, never uttered a sound, his outward composure in sharp contrast to the wailing people around him.

Wikipedia article.

is it possible to leave my threads in the Islam page?

(Andrew):  Yes, if your OP makes a connection to Islam.

samy 73 - 18 September 2011 10:07 PM

where can i find the other thread about evoulution?

(Andrew):  I can’t tell if you’re asking about a thread that you’ve already started and can’t find, or just asking about finding other threads on evolution.  Discussions on evolution/creation belong in the Creation forum and that’s probably where you’ll find them.

What kind of religion that part of the Roman Empire had in the year 79 AC?
May they became Christian, or even knew about it by some Christian preachers?

It is believed that many of the citizens either believed they would be spared through homage, sacrifice and other rites and also perhaps that some of them may have been ordered to stay by the priests of the various gods.

Questionable!!!!
Was that kind of sacrifice (rite) known about that religion?
I mean is it been experienced some where in the Roman Empire before or after Pompeii?
Even if the priests requested that, where are the authorities, the Roman ruler and his forces? What was the controlling system at that time in such place?
I mean do the priests have all the power at that time and place?

Hint: right now it’s the lead-off thread.
If I move a thread, I generally send the author notification as to where it’s been moved.  Did you get such a thing?

What do you mean by ‘that religion’? The citizens of Pompeii in 79 AD worshipped many deities. I explored four different temples when I was there, Apollo, Isis, Poseidon and Jupiter.

I think the guy was crouching because his lungs were filled with burning volcanic ash.  He may have been praying, but he was more likely saying the Roman equivalent of “Oh shit. I’m gonna die.”
